This page is about concepts students are learning.
November: In Math In math we are learning to build and label base ten block area models, make area models on paper, and solve multiplication using partial products. Students are using models to make sense of multiplication. Here are a few pictures of models students made in class... In Science We just completed our bucket of mud science lab and now have a pond ecosystem in Mrs. Buppert's classroom and will soon have a stream ecosystem in Mrs. Hopkins Fishers classroom. We will be naming some of our new additions if they survive to see Thanksgiving (fingers crossed!). In the pond ecosystem there are 5 tadpoles, 4 fish, 1 crayfish, TONS on dragonfly larva, snails, and other tiny pond insects. (we will only be naming the bigger-cute stuff) In Social Studies Students are beginning to learn about Maryland's past as well as Native American cultures. Stay tuned for updates! In ELA Students are learning new vocabulary with Greek and Latin roots, suffixes, and prefixes. They are learning about subjects and predicates for reading and writing purposes. Reading comprehension strategies are applied in all subjects. In writing, students are learning to include details in paragraphs. Theme, Main Idea, and summaries of texts are being explored through the use of multiple texts. |
